This project was very fun as I had the opituntity to write my own brief.  This was a great opportunity to venture working with a new materiality, a new practice,  so I decided to pursue my own interest for letterpress. I was inspired to highlight the value of small talk as for me personally i found first year difficult being a more introverted person but I found that small acts of kindness, small conversations here and there made quite a big difference in my day. So this is what initiated the project for me.

I researched different designers and practitioners such as such as Alan Kitching and Anthony Burril who work with letterpress. I got in contact with the stationers Adams of Rye LTD, where Anthony Burril produced much of his work, they were super nice and they let me come down and use their facility to produce my work. Whilst there I got to meet Burril, and I got to get his insight on my work which was really beneficial when conducting the overal compostion of my poster design. As well as making posters I also produced sticky note prints, I feel that concept of sticky note, notes perfectly encapsulates what I would consider defines a small acts of kindness - for example how someone might the leave a friendly reminder or sweet little notes stuck to the fridge for their partner. Additionally as sticky notes are associated with being used as reminders is usefull as a medium as my roject aim is to communicate, to remind people the importance of Small talk and by dotting post-it note reminders around campus would be a effective way of communicating that.

Presentation, and reflection:The presentation of my work (“the review”) went really well, the response to my work was very exciting and it was great with people saying that it has inspired them for there future projects and as the sticky aesthetics of the stick notes being hand stamped is so personal if, they where to receive one from someone they would keep it. Getting a response like this made what I done feel worth is and have value, effectively concluding the project as the target audience. The feedback in more review was super animated and positive which has left me feeling super proud of my work. One of my tutors said going forward he will use my project as an example of how this brief should be approached and he invited me to talk to the first years about my work the following year.
